Terms of Service
Last updated 7 September 2026 · Applies to the Captain ADHD mobile app and captainadhd.com
The short version
- The app is for adults. It is a self-help and screening tool, not a medical device, and nothing in it is medical advice.
- The app is free to use. Premium is an optional subscription billed through Google Play (or the App Store on iOS) — it renews automatically until you cancel it in your store account.
- Your data lives on your phone. We hold no account, no profile and nothing that identifies you — see the Privacy Policy.
- Use the app kindly and honestly. Don't try to break it, resell it, or unlock Premium without paying.
- These terms are governed by Belgian law. If you are a consumer, the mandatory consumer-protection rights of your own country always apply on top.
Who we are
Captain ADHD is published and operated by Claudio Barba, rue de la Cambre 2D, 1200 Brussels, Belgium. Questions about these terms — or anything else — go to support@captainadhd.com, where a person reads them.
What Captain ADHD is — and is not
Captain ADHD is a daily companion app for adults with (or wondering about) ADHD. It offers an ADHD screening questionnaire, a daily card, focus timers, gentle reminders, a private medication log and similar self-help tools.
It is not a medical product. The screener is the ASRS v1.1, a screening instrument: it can suggest whether a conversation with a clinician might be worthwhile, and it cannot tell you whether you have ADHD. The app is not a medical device, does not diagnose, treat or prevent any condition, and does not replace a doctor, therapist or pharmacist. If you need medical care, seek it.
The medication log records only what you tell it. It cannot know whether you actually took a dose, and it must not be read as proof that you did. Reminders are delivered by your phone's operating system on a best-effort basis and can be blocked by battery savers or system settings — the notification health panel in your Profile shows what is really queued.
Who can use the app
You must be 18 or older to use Captain ADHD. The app is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly offer it to them. If you buy Premium, you must be old enough to enter contracts under the law that applies to you, or have the account holder's permission.
Your data belongs to you
Everything you put in the app — screening answers, check-ins, streak, notes, medication log — is stored on your device and nowhere else. There is no account and no server copy. What we receive when you subscribe, and what we never receive, is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
The licence we give you
Subject to these terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the app on devices you own or control, for private, non-commercial use. The copy of the app is licensed to you, not sold; downloading it also means agreeing to the app store's own terms (Google Play's Terms of Service or Apple's Media Services terms).
Premium subscriptions
Captain ADHD is free to download and use. Premium unlocks the rest — daily check-ins, the evening wind-down, the weekly recap, extra focus sounds, the card archive, higher reminder limits and up to three doses in the medication log.
Billing and renewal
- Premium is offered as an auto-renewing subscription — monthly or yearly, your choice — purchased through Google Play or the App Store.
- The store charges the account you are signed in with, at the prices shown at purchase (plus any taxes the store adds). We never see or handle your payment details.
- The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Manage or cancel it in your store account (Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions, or App Store → your account → Subscriptions). Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not refund the current period.
Trials and refunds
- If a free trial is offered, it converts into a paid subscription at the end of the trial unless you cancel before it ends. The store shows the conversion date.
- Refunds are handled by the store under its own policy — start at Google Play refunds or reportaproblem.apple.com. As a consumer you also have the statutory rights of your country, which these terms never take away.
Prices and what we can change
We may change Premium's prices or features. A change to your price never applies to a period you have already paid for, and if we change what an active subscription includes in a way that is to your disadvantage, the store's renewal notice gives you the chance to cancel first.
Playing fair
You agree not to:
- copy, resell, redistribute or sublicense the app, or make it available to others as a service;
- reverse-engineer it except where that is expressly allowed by law;
- unlock Premium without paying — including by sharing reviewer or gift codes outside the circles we gave them for, selling them, or tampering with the app;
- use the app to break the law, or in a way that would harm other users or our systems.
Gift codes exist so that we can quietly give Premium to people who cannot pay for it. Please keep it that way.
Availability and changes
We are a very small team (one person), and we improve the app constantly. We may add, change or remove features, and we may stop building the app entirely — in which case we will give reasonable notice in the app or on captainadhd.com, and if you have a paid period left, we will work with the store so you are treated fairly under its refund rules. Because your data lives on your device, nothing we do server-side can ever delete it; only you can.
Warranty and liability
The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind except those the law does not allow us to exclude. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and — as explained above — it is not a substitute for professional care.
To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for anything connected with the app is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or €50. That limit does not apply to intentional or grossly negligent conduct, or to anything else the law refuses to limit. If you are a consumer in the EU or UK, your mandatory statutory rights — including the right to a product that matches what was promised — are unaffected.
Ending these terms
You can end this agreement at any time by uninstalling the app. We can suspend or end your access if you seriously breach these terms (for example, unlocking Premium without paying), with notice where that is possible. What stays yours: everything stored on your device, and any rights you have under the store's refund rules.
Law and courts
These terms are governed by Belgian law. Disputes go to the courts of Brussels, Belgium — except that if you are a consumer, you may also sue in the courts of the country where you live, and nothing here limits any consumer right you have under mandatory local law, including bringing a claim before your local consumer protection body.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them. For a change that matters — especially anything touching subscriptions — we will announce it in the app or on the store listing before it takes effect, and continuing to use the app after that is how you accept it. If you cannot accept a change, your way out is cancelling Premium and uninstalling; nothing in the app holds you hostage.
Languages
These terms are available in English, Spanish, French and Italian. All four say the same thing; in case of any difference, the English version is the authoritative one.
